Bing & Ruth aren’t your average band — they’re a seven-piece ensemble, a mini experimental orchestra of sorts, dedicated to performing the sweepingly ambient arrangements of Brooklyn-based composer and musician David Moore. Bing & Ruth have warm bodies manning every section, including but not limited to woodwinds, strings, vocals, percussion, and synth. As of now, the roster boasts piano, two clarinets, cello, a tape delay, and a pair of basses. Moore’s heavily emotive, grand-scale compositions would comfortably soundtrack a nature video, an adventure-movie travel montage, or constellation film at the planetarium. They’re a pleasure to sink into. “The Towns We Love Is Our Town” is the lead single off Bing & Ruth’s forthcoming album, Tomorrow Was The Golden Age, their second, following 2010’s City Lake. The piece somehow comes off as both minimalist and impossibly textured — it ebbs and flows over your consciousness, putting you to sleep (but in a nice, warm sense).
