bottoms – “My Body” (Stereogum Premiere)
Bottoms are a “gender-problematizing goth dance band” that grew out of Brooklyn’s DIY space Secret Project Robot last year when two members of Teeth, Simon Leahy and Michael Prommasit, teamed up with Jake Dibeler — a performance artist whose work deals with historical anxieties surrounding HIV and gay suicide — to make aggressive punk-minded electro. Leahy is also a co-founder of the Bushwig festival and prominent player in the Bushwick drag scene. Now bottoms have signed to JD Samson’s label Atlas Chair for their upcoming Goodbye EP, which includes the harrowing “My Body.” The song, which tackles complicated gender issues as promised, throttles like a hyper-sexualized Factory Floor fronted by a howling hyena-pixie. Hear it below.
Goodbye is out 1/20/15 on Atlas Chair. Bottoms have a series of shows in New York the next few months:
08/30 New York, NY @ Razor 5000
09/06 New York, NY @ Secret Project Robot at Bushwig w/ The Soft Pink Truth, etc.
10/17 New York, NY @ Palisades w/ Dope Body
10/21-25 New York, NY @ CMJ
Btw you’ll notice on Soundcloud that bottoms stylize their name as B♥TT♥MS, which is awesome.
