Boots – “Mercy”
Jordy Asher’s work as Boots was almost completely unheard-of this time last year (though we were early fans of his previous band Blonds), but in a short time he’s become a major name. Though his mixtape WinterSpringSummerFall felt like a bit of a victory lap after producing most of Beyoncé, his new single feels much more confident. Part of that confidence is illustrated by his choice to spend more than three and a half minutes (in a song that clocks in at 4:26) singing in a fragile voice over beats that sound softly nestled in your ear. In that last minute, everything catches fire and it becomes a crushing rock song. Listen below.
