Stream Engineers Always Returning (Stereogum Premiere)
Barely a year had passed when London shoegazers Engineers followed their sophomore album, Three Fact Fader, with the 2010 release In Praise Of More, but now it’s been just about four years since we’ve gotten a new album from the band. Next week though, Engineers will return with their fourth album, Always Returning. Now a trio and counting electronic producer Ulrich Schnauss (who joined the band prior to In Praise) among their numbers, Engineers still play loud and lovely music, but it would be inaccurate to simply call them a shoegaze band. Always Returning opening track “Bless This Painter” is more interested in percussive trances, while “Drive Your Car” floats effortlessly, with synths and vocals that pair together like an Air track. It’s all worth checking out, though, which you can do now by streaming the album below.
Always Returning is out 9/16 via Kscope.
