Midnight Plus One’s “Like Camera” spends most of its time table-setting, slowly building up elements throughout its five-minute runtime so that it can dismantle them in a chaotic fury during the last minute. It’s pushed along by an alluring vocal take from frontwoman Casey Cook that borders on spoken word. “I wanna keep you like camera can do,” she says, speaking in detached broken English that contributes to the slow-burn tension of the song. It’s all backed by glowering post-rock guitar work and subterranean drumming, adding an expansive depth of field. Listen below.
