Young Statues – “Run The River Dry” (Stereogum Premiere)
Philadelphia-based Young Statues recorded their second full-length album, The Flatlands Are Your Friend, in self-imposed solitude in a studio in Athens, Georgia, free from distraction. This is their first full-length album as a quartet, following a self-titled 2011 LP, as well as the 2013 EP Age Isn’t Ours. The entirety of The Flatlands Are Your Friend was recorded with all four members in the room at once, creating an untouched, vintage sound. Today they release the first single off the album, “Run the River Dry,” a guitar-heavy track with a military marching beat and distant yet distinct vocals, all knitted together by sparingly used synths and echoing guitars. Listen.
