Kero Kero Bonito – “Cat Vs. Dog (Kane West Remix)” (Stereogum Premiere)
Kero Kero Bonito’s hyper-saccharine “Sick Beat” unsurprisingly fit perfectly with a remix by PC Music’s Danny L Harle, as part of an upcoming remix EP. Now a different producer from that camp has stepped up to the plate for a complete reformation of another one of the Bonito’s songs. “Cat. Vs. Dog” originally acted like a brief rap battle between a cat and dog, laying out the hilariously violent ways they would mess each other up, but now it becomes a full dance track courtesy of Kane West. The UK producer is best known for his closing set on the PC Music’s DISown Mix which included a bizarrely perfect Kenny G-style MIDI-sax cover of Burial’s “Archangel.” West’s remix is appropriately nuts, building up the track with manipulated vocals, bouncy drums, and finally using that “eternal hatred” cheer to make the perfect drop to an eventual storm of cat and dog samples. Listen below — it is as crazy as it is fun.
Bonito Recycling is out in 9/29 via Double Denim Records.
