Universal Plans Retroactive Product Placement For Old Music Videos
Remember when they used to blur brand names out of music videos? Times have changed, kiddos. According to The Independent, Universal Music Group will soon allow advertisers to superimpose their logos into old music videos. The videos will apparently function like billboards, with companies able to swap in a new, different advertisement once a previous paid campaign is complete. A company called MirriAd is responsible for this disheartening technology, which will first be used to insert Grand Marnier branding into an Avicii video. “Being inside content is more valuable than being outside content,” MirriAd CEO Mark Popkiewicz told The Financial Times. Sometimes living in the future really sucks.
