Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham is a larger-than-life hardcore bellower known for getting naked and bleeding onstage. (He is also, full disclosure, my friend.) He is not the first person you’d expect to see playing a prominent role in local Toronto politics. And yet, he spend yesterday afternoon moderating his city’s mayoral debate. Yesterday at TIFF Bell Lightbox’s Cinema One, Abraham sat down with all the major candidates left in the race — Doug Ford, John Tory, Olivia Chow, Morgan Baskin, and Ari Goldkind — and asked a pile of arts-related questions. I haven’t watched the whole thing, but much of the conversation seemed to revolve around whether Toronto should try to be more like Austin. Also of note: Baskin is a 19-year-old who dresses like the secretary from The Real Ghostbusters, and this may be crazier than Abraham moderating the debate. Watch the whole 93-minute debate below.
