Watch Foo Fighters Talk About Sonic Highways In New Teaser
The Foo Fighters’ HBO series, Sonic Highways, premieres next week and so far, we haven’t really had much of an idea of how the show will actually be structured or what it will look like beyond a trailer and some short promos. Enter “A Conversation With Foo Fighters,” an extended look at the motivations behind the new series and album. “To sequence a series around the sequence of an album and make them both work is a pain in the fucking ass,” Dave Grohl admits at the beginning of the video. “And we did it.” Judging by what’s said in the video, each hour-long episode will first interview various artists from each city they visit, then Dave Grohl wrote lyrics based around what was said in those interviews and created a song, which will be played by the band at the end of each episode. “I talk about the regional relevance of the music from the city, the cultural influence that made for the sound of the music,” Grohl says. “I mean, there’s no way you can tell the history of a city’s music in one hour, so we have to do it in a way that relates to the band and goes from point-A to point-B and becomes a song.” The teaser also provides a long list of some of the guests that will appear: Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Chuck D, Pharrell, LL Cool J, Guns N’ Roses, Joan Jett, Buddy Guy, Mike D, and Bonnie Raitt.
