Mark McGuire – “Noctilucence”
Earlier this year, the former Emeralds guitarist Mark McGuire released Along The Way, a dizzily gorgeous mostly-instrumental album. He’s just announced plans to follow it up with Noctilucence, a new five-song EP named after the phenomenon of clouds glowing at night. The EP’s title track is also its centerpiece, a 12-minute instrumental that glimmers and flutters quietly before building up to a raging storm. Parts of “Noctilucence” sound like minimal techno, and parts of it sound like the score to an absolutely amazing ’80s-movie bank-robbery montage. It’s a deeply impressive piece of music, and you can hear it and check out the EP’s tracklist below.
