The Late Show With David Letterman doesn’t do too many online exclusives; it’s not that kind of show. But last night, in the third night of the Foo Fighters’ five-night stand on the show, Letterman got them to stick around for one more song and then threw that one up on YouTube. Before they played their 2005 song “Miracle,” Letterman told a really nice story about skiing with his son and what the song means to him. In all his decades on TV, Letterman has only rarely gotten personal like that, and it’s a lovely thing to see. On the show proper, the band followed up on covering Black Sabbath with Zac Brown and duetting with Heart by bringing out the blues-rocker Tony Joe White and covering his 1969 song “Polk Salad Annie.” The band also did a goofy skit for the show. The Sonic Highways TV show debuts 10/17 on HBO, and the album is out 11/10 on RCA. If I was this guy, you could all kiss my ass.
