San Francisco Radio Bans Lorde’s “Royals” During World Series
Lorde famously wrote her breakout song “Royals” after coming across a picture of Kansas City Royals Hall Of Famer George Brett in a magazine. And even though the song doesn’t have anything to do with baseball, the city of San Francisco isn’t taking any chances. As the San Francisco Giants prepare to begin the World Series against the Royals next week, two radio stations have taken the measure of banning “Royals” from the air until the Series is over.
As Billboard reports, the area stations KFOG and KOIT have opted not to play “Royals” until one team beats the other. KFOG program director Jim Richards tells NBC Bay Area, “Why send any positive vibes to Kansas City? Why not give the song a rest? No one is going to get hurt over it.” As an Orioles fan, I support this measure completely.
The World Series begins tomorrow night in Kansas City.
