Chvrches – “Get Away”
The movie Drive is only three years old, and its soundtrack is magnificent; it’s arguably the best thing about the entire movie. But BBC radio host Zane Lowe has taken on the strange, difficult endeavor of improving, or at least competing against, that original soundtrack. Lowe has put together a whole new soundtrack to the movie, one that features big names like Foals, SBTRKT, Baauer, Jon Hopkins, BANKS, and the 1975. All of them are putting together new music for the project, ambitiously titled Radio One Rescores: Drive – Curated By Zane Lowe. Chvrches have contributed the new song “Get Away,” a warm, streaked ’80s-style synthpop cut that probably could’ve fit just fine on the original soundtrack, even if it’s not quite as chilly as the songs that made the cut. It’s the first new Chvrches song in a while, and you can hear it, and check out a trailer for the project, below.
Drive will air 10/30 on BBC Three, and you’ll be able to switch between the new soundtrack and the original.
UPDATE: Zane Lowe has responded to criticism of this project. See his tweets below.
I’ve read some messages from people who are either confused or angry about #R1Drive. Its important to say no-one is trying to improve here.

This experiment comes from a place of respect. We have not steam rolled in. NWR and the Film Company have been into it since the start.

It is a parallel experience that you can choose to watch or not.

Its just an idea. But understand that we are not trying to replace or improve the original…just be inspired.

That said, it’s really really good.
