Baauer – “One Touch” (Feat. AlunaGeorge & Rae Sremmurd)
Before Baauer hit it big with song-meme “Harlem Shake” sometime back in the Paleozoic era, he was garnering respect as a talented producer on the rise. And now that his moment of profitable ignominy has passed, he can get back to being a buzzworthy young stud producer, only with a bigger budget and a more impressive Rolodex. “One Touch,” from a new EP called ß, is the best thing he’s ever done. That’s thanks in part to explicit guest appearances from sleek R&B-pop futurists AlunaGeorge and the ballistic young Southern rap duo Rae Sremmurd. Both guests sound absolutely at home unrolling their skill set amidst production that bangs magnificently without ever coming close to overdoing it. There’s no need for Baauer to be overzealous when his guests do that for him: Aluna Francis shifts gears from suave gliding to tuneful chirping about hand jobs; Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy spazz out with an exuberant, madcap authority that suggests you’re still better off not flexing in their vicinity. Meanwhile, Baauer sews the whole thing up with a beat that somehow manages to be tasteful and understated while also eliciting uncontrollable shouts of glee. It’s a great fucking song in both senses of the phrase, so listen up.
ß is out 11/4 via LuckyMe.
