Songs: Ohia – “Blue Chicago Moon” (Demo) (Stereogum Premiere)
Here’s another beauty from the upcoming reissue of Songs: Ohia’s Didn’t It Rain. “Blue Chicago Moon” was already a classically haunting Jason Molina composition, teeming with human desperation. The demo version from the reissue strips that desperation to its essence, paring what was already a gorgeously sparse production down to just Molina’s weary Midwestern drawl and his tremolo-trembling guitar. “With that darkness and desolation,” he sings, “endless, endless, endless.” Live through unchanging darkness below, and remember: You are not helpless.
