Tobias Jesso Jr. – “Hollywood”
Tobias Jesso Jr. has shared his first studio recording and the lead single from his debut studio album. “Hollywood,” recorded with Chet “JR” White of Girls, is the sort of straightforward Jesso piano ballad we’ve come to know and love, sung with a fragile humility on par worthy of Fievel. But in contrast with the lo-fi home recordings that made Jesso’s album so anticipated, this one is clear and crisp, and it ends with a bombardment of brass not unlike Radiohead’s “Life In A Glass House.” Jesso sings with trademark melancholy about his attempts to make a living as a songwriter in Los Angeles, solemnly concluding, “I think I’m gonna die in Hollywood.” Listen below.
Jesso’s debut album is out next spring on True Panther and features production by White, Patrick Carney, and Ariel Rechtshaid. “Hollywood” is available now at iTunes and Amazon. Jesso will open for Foxygen 1/2/15 at The Roxy in Los Angeles.
