Cave People moved to Philadelphia from their hometown of Scranton and brought a sleepy sense of resolve along with them. Their music is a nice reprieve from the scuzzier stuff that’s been coming out of the Philly scene over the past few years, and their forthcoming debut EP is a softhearted collection of tracks that play into the more tenderly sentimental side of punk. “Cluster” is the opening track from that EP and it kicks off with a genius line that hits on a few different levels: “Hope you don’t see me when no one sees me because that’s the person I try to hide.” The lyrics from Cave People brainchild David Tomaine are sharp and down to earth, and his voice has a wearied reverence that’s supported by woodsy, delicate instrumentation. “Cluster” has a big heart that’s in a lot of pain, but there’s a sense that everything will be okay if you can just get through the next week, month, year.
