America’s Pear Farmers Thank Rick Ross
Rick Ross lost some weight recently thanks to a fruit-heavy diet (RossFit isn’t real, unfortunately), and when he proclaimed his love of pears to an interviewer last summer, he instantly became the stuff of Vine legend. Rozay’s “Shout out to all the pear” quote became one of 2014’s biggest memes — never mind that Ross actually said, “Shout out to all the pear eaters.” Here’s the infamous loop:
No matter how he phrased it, the Bawse put pears at the forefront of the American discourse, and for that, America’s pear farmers are eternally grateful. As Spin points out, USA Pears spokesperson Kathy Stephenson told Modern Farmer that although they haven’t seen an increase in sales yet, they’ve experienced an increase in social media impressions since Ross shouted out their product.
“On behalf of our 1,600 pear growers from the Northwest region, we are pleased that Rick has mentioned the health benefits of pears,” Stephenson writes in an email to Modern Farmer, adding that pears provide 24 percent of the recommended daily intake of fiber, which helps curb an appetite. “Overall, we could not be more pleased with our message being delivered to a new, young and hip demographic.”
As for Ross, his Instagram has been overtaken by the pear emoji, and he autographed a fan’s pear last week.
