Jefre Cantu-Ledesma – “Pale Flower”
Multi-instrumentalist and Root Strata record label founder Jefre Cantu-Ledesma has been putting out music for years under various names, the most notable of which are probably his Raum project with Grouper’s Liz Harris and the Alps with Alexis Georgopoulos. He’s getting ready to release a new solo album, called A Year With 13 Moons, which was recorded during an artist residency at San Francisco’s Headlands Center For The Arts. “The time at the Headlands was a real gift — of space, time and being cared for. This allowed me to create music in a way I never had before, on a day-in, day-out basis for hours on end,” he said of the experience. “I stopped caring about end results and fell in love with the process. I learned how to let the music create itself in a way, to lead me rather than trying to force it down a path.” “Pale Flower” is the first offering from the album, and it’s a glassy and vaporous ambient track that’s punctuated with loud bursts of noise that almost sound like a chainsaw hitting open water. A Year With 13 Moons is out 2/10 via Mexican Summer.
