Pauli LoveJoy – “Give Me A Sign”
When the Eric Garner verdict came out over two weeks ago, Questlove posted a photo on Instagram captioned by a lengthy call to action pleading for musicians to write more protest songs. Here’s one song that ought to please Questo, then: Pauli LoveJoy is perhaps best known for collaborating with Damon Albarn and Kindness, but the London-based drummer records on his own as well. LoveJoy’s latest release “Give Me A Sign” is a response to recent injustices in the U.S., sampling the sounds of a crowd chanting, “Hands up, don’t shoot!” and, “No justice, no peace!” while he sings, “Are you gonna be there for the war? ‘Cause this is what we’re fighting for.” The album artwork is the New York-based artist Amar Stewart’s interpretation of the now iconic photograph of a young boy embracing a cop at a protest. Read LoveJoy’s tweet about the song and listen to it below.
hoping that the art + music we share today will spread a little love + light through this world.
