Swings – “Heavy Manner”
Swings (fka Anchor 3), a young trio born out of the small but fierce DIY scene of Tenleytown, Washington, D.C., make indie rock music that’s aware of its history (particularly ’90s post-hardcore and post-rock) without being defined by it. After a couple of EPs, they’re getting ready to drop their debut LP next month. “Heavy Manner” is Detergent Hymns’ second single, a mix of appealingly slurred vocals and soft-storm guitar that manages to sound at once uneasy and comforting, like a screaming match on codeine. It’s very good, and you should listen below.

Detergent Hymns is out 1/17 via Quiet Year Records.
Side-note: I actually went to high school in Tenleytown, D.C., and while I wasn’t really involved with the music scene at all then, it’s still gratifying to see Tenley getting some attention. Side-note 2: Krill loves them!
