Danny Brown Is Writing A Children’s Book
Danny Brown is currently at work on the follow-up to his 2013 album Old. This is very, very good news. But Brown is also working on another, very different artistic endeavor: A children’s book. As Rolling Stone points out, Brown tells the Australian radio station Triple J that he’s writing the book specifically for his 13-year-old daughter: “It’s really about self-esteem in black girl. You know how black women do so much — process their hair, change their eye color? It’s really about a little girl who does all these things to herself and changes herself, and she realizes she’s just better off the way she is.” Brown says the book is taking him “forever to finish,” and he doesn’t mention anything about publications plans. He says he wants it to be “real Dr. Seuss-y.” Here’s the interview, which includes bonus Dr. Seuss talk:
Obviously, there’s going to be a bit of dissonance if the “stank pussy smelling like Cool Ranch Doritos” guy gets his writing into the Barnes & Noble kids’ section. But Brown has proved, again and again, that he can write like a motherfucker, and I would very much like to buy this book for my kids. I hope it comes out.
