Chastity Belt – “Time To Go Home”
Blink and you may have missed Chastity Belt’s 2013 debut, No Regerts, but the Seattle four-piece is back with a new song and album that will make them pretty hard to ignore: “Time To Go Home” digs even deeper into a jaded melancholia that they only scratched the surface of on their debut. “Everything is beautiful because we’re delusional/ Yeah, I think I’ve figured it out,” Julia Shapiro sings towards the end of the track, aware that she’s saying it with a matter-of-factness that only comes with youth. The slow-burn track has an imposing drum buildup that breaks free only sporadically, while the guitar sludges along like the bottom of an ashtray. “I just wanna have a good time,” she says and is met with a few seconds of silence, shooting her down; meanwhile, “I can’t see straight” is greeted with affirmative coos. It’s the ultimate party song, capturing the before and after in pointed succession. Listen below.
