Carly Rae Jepsen Is Recording With Dev Hynes And Ariel Rechtshaid
Carly Rae “Call Me Maybe” Jepsen is recording with Dev Hynes and Ariel Rechtshaid! Let me repeat that: Carly Rae Jepsen is recording with Dev Hynes and Ariel Rechtshaid!! As Brooklyn Vegan points out, Jepsen shared some photos on Instagram yesterday of the three of them working in the studio on what she calls “one of [her] fav songs.” I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise, as neither of them are strangers to helping out some pop heavyweights: Hynes has worked with Florence + The Machine, Kylie Minogue, and was this close to writing for Britney Spears, while Rechtshaid is perhaps best known for his work with Charli XCX and Haim, and has produced for Beyoncé, Madonna, and Usher. But this could potentially be really exciting: as evidenced by Sky Ferreira’s “Everything Is Embarrassing” and Solange’s True EP, these two can do some great things while working together, and Jepsen seems as good a muse as any. “Call Me Maybe” is arguably the catchiest pop song of the decade, and Jepsen is a pretty good songwriter in her own right: Kiss may not have produced any single as big as her one hit wonder, but it was filled with some good-to-great tracks. So this could end up being pretty cool! Jepsen has been hard at work on her third studio album for a while now, and it’s expected out sometime this year.
