Avid Dancer – “All Your Words Are Gone” (Stereogum Premiere)
Jacob Dillan Summers is an ex-Marine and drum corps champion who was forbidden to listen to anything but Christian music until his late teens. His music as Avid Dancer is not necessarily what you’d expect given his rigid background or his brusque, chiseled facade. It’s gentle, even fragile — lightweight indie-pop delivered in quivering, mouselike falsetto. “All Your Words Are Gone,” from Avid Dancer’s debut LP 1st Bath, twinkles delicately but moves forward with a steadfast determination and a tinge of twang. “Just be who you are,” Summers sings. “Throw away all things not worth needing.” Hear it below.
1st Bath is out 4/14 on Grand Jury. Pre-order it at iTunes, Amazon, or the label.
