Stalls – “Tooth And Nail” (Stereogum Premiere)
Stalls in a new project from three well-seasoned Bay Area vets, and that workmanship comes across in the music: the playing here is incredible — even beneath all of the mud and grit that they pile on, these riffs kick you in the ass and don’t let up. On “Tooth And Nail,” frontman Sam Weiss’ voice sounds grizzled and charming, like he’s been chain-smoking and throwing back shots for centuries. The track is both towering and light on its feet, leaning in hard on the bass but somehow still coming up for air. Their brand of scuzzy post-punk is nothing groundbreaking, but it is immensely satisfying to listen to, which you can do below.
Stalls’ self-titled debut EP is out 1/20 via Vacant Stare Records.
