Marisa Tomei’s Parents Are Suing Sean Lennon For $10M Over A Tree
Celebrities sure are thick on the ground in New York’s West Village. Sean Lennon lives in a $9.5 million townhouse on West 13th, and his next-door neighbors happen to be Gary and Addie Tomei, the parents of Oscar-winning actress Marisa Tomei. And while I’m sure we’d all like to hear the random Thanksgiving-afternoon stoop conversations that Yoko Ono and Marisa Tomei might get into, things are not so rosy. The Tomei couple is suing Lennon for $10 million because, they say, the roots of a tree in Lennon’s front yard are damaging their foundation.
The New York Daily News reports that the Tomeis are claiming Lennon’s “stink tree” has “compromised the basement wall and interior… (causing) irreparable damage to the structural integrity of the building” and that Lennon hasn’t done anything about it even though they’ve been asking him to do it for a year.
Gary Tomei says, “He refuses to do anything. He’s owned it for six years and neglected it. I like him personally, but he’s stubborn, and he has a lawyer who is very belligerent… I hate to see this tree come down, but it’s destroying my stoop. There are cracks everywhere. The masons don’t want to make repairs because they say it’s just going to happen again. I want him to take the tree down and pay my expenses. It’s not cheap. I tried, but you can’t talk to him. He’s always traveling.”
The Daily News also says that the Tomeis once had to move in with their daughter because a pipe burst in Lennon’s house, and the paper quotes a conversation between Gary Tomei and an unidentified contractor working for Lennon. Contractor: “You’re making me out to be a bad guy.” Tomei: “You are a bad guy.” Sick burn, Gary Tomei.
