The Juliana Hatfield Three – “I’m Shy”
Tomorrow, the reunited Juliana Hatfield Three will release their crowdfunded reunion album Whatever, My Love, their first effort since the crowdfunded 1993 debut Become What You Are. We’ve posted the early singles “If I Could,” “Ordinary Guy,” and “Wood.” And now they’re letting us hear my favorite song on the album, the hooky and plainspoken “I’m Shy.” “I’m Shy” reminds me of an era when a certain breed of alt-pop songwriters would sing exactly what they were singing, without obscuring it behind any sort of artifice. It’s a song about being shy. And it has a big, huge, circa-1993 alt-pop hook working for it. The song works as the modern-rock-radio nugget that time forgot, and you can hear it below.
Whatever, My Love is out 2/17 on American Laundromat.
