Last we heard from Barbadian rapper Haleek Maul, he was the night to Kitty’s day on a Ryan Hemsworth mixtape, and even though it’s been over a year, his new track “Medicine” skirts the same dark underbelly of life. Maul frequently collaborates with murky, experimental producers and the burbling sound effect schizophrenia embedded in Shy Guy’s production here is no different, providing the perfect foil for Maul’s tight, impassive rapping. “So sick from the street/ Need that medicine,” he raps, flipping a neighborhood’s blight into a virus that can infect its inhabitants. “Medicine” is the first song from Maul’s new project, Prince Midas, which will drop in April.
