This Week In Comedy Open Thread
Can you have a sweet and heartfelt ending to a sitcom relationship that was rarely given much focus, and never made a whole lot of sense when it was given focus? Uhhhh, I guess so! The way last night’s Community handled Troy and Britta’s breakup, with Troy and Abed Freaky Friday-style switching bodies so Abed would have to break up with Britta rather than Troy, convoluted as it was, actually led to some sincerely sweet moments. Troy and Britta needed to break up because having to throw in a line about how they were still dating every so often was starting to feel senseless, and handling it with another movie trope was exhausting, but both Abed and Troy’s conversations with Britta seemed human and normal and grounded. Also, Abed’s Troy impression was ridiculous and Troy’s Abed impression was good. Definitely not a bad episode of a TV show. Speaking of not bad episodes of TV shows, The Office was good! I do wish I could just watch a full half hour of Jim and Pam trying to work through their marital problems, but getting in a few minutes here and there was close to good enough. The last two minutes of the episode, when Jim and Pam hugged by the taxi? Give me a break. GIVE ME A BREAK, ‘CAUSE OF HOW GOOD THAT WAS! Very, very good. The paper airplane contest was fine enough too. Erin is very funny. Speaking of very funny, (U just gotta have good segues in this biz), Parks and Recreation was very funny! Jenny Slate again! I loved when Tom convinced Ann to break up with her for him for his blanket and then said, “Noooo that’s my favorite blankey, can’t you do it for free?” Or whatever. Hahah. That was great! April convincing Andy to reunite with his band that she doesn’t like was also great. Good show. Bob’s Burgers was also very f’ing good. My favorite Fleet Week episode of a television show since Sex and the City’s. WHAT DID YOU THINK?
