“LIVE IN NEW YORK IT’S SAUUUDDAANNIIIIGGGHHHHHHH!” Why don’t they have Dennis Rodman do the cold open introduction every week? It’s like their heads aren’t even on straight anymore over at Saturday Night Live. A-duh, hello! Hire this man permanently! Give us what we want! The Kim Jong Un cold open that preceded Dennis Rodman’s perfect interpretation of the SNL introduction was, despite Bobby Moynihan’s best efforts, another run-on political sketch with nothing to say. It’s odd that they feel the need to do these week after week, especially when viewers have so many other options for televised political comedy. Just do something else! It’s fine if you don’t really want to do this thing, we don’t want you to do it either! After Melissa McCarthy took over, though — and she really did take over, acting as the main focal point in every one of her sketches — the episode came to be one of the best of the season. It’s not too much of a surprise, as her first appearance on SNL was also wonderful. (“Get me out of one jam?” is a quote that I say TO THIS DAY.) She was able to save sketches that would have flopped with a host that wasn’t as remarkably fun to watch, and embody characters that would have been uncomfortable to watch if they were presented with any amount of uncertainty. It was good, basically! Good job and now let’s watch some stuff.

The women’s basketball coach sketch was a great example of a current event sketch handled well. It’s a bit disappointing when something like this get shoved into a Piers Morgan sketch or similar, so it was nice to see this one break out and have some imagination and FUN! LOL. My sketch commentary is almost as fun to read as it is to watch the sketches, I wish it could go on forever but I think it’s time to watch the thing now!

I have never seen a good amount of The Voice, so I was surprised and delighted that the joke of the sketch was not the reaction to a character who thought she was better than she was. Very funny that she knew she was bad and wanted a day off from work. Then yesterday I saw a pice of an episode of The Voice and the girl I saw was a bad singer, but still two of the guys were fighting to have her on their team! So I guess it’s true! WHO KNEW!

“Million Dollar Wheel” is absolutely a sketch that would have been so boring if it weren’t for Melissa McCarthy. That feels annoying to say, and I do want to say to myself, “Just enjoy it if you enjoyed it, why do you have to bring it down?” But also uhhhhhhhhhhhthiscouldhavebeenverybad!

Weekend Update featured two of my favorite Weekend Update guests this week. First: Jacob, Bar Mitzvah Boy. So good. My favorite thing Vanessa Bayer does on Saturday Night Life, 4SURE. A++.

And second, Drunk Uncle! YAY! Featuring Peter Dinklage! BIGGER YAY! It was nice to have someone there for Drunk Uncle to interact with, because if I must be very honest his bit can feel repetitive (since, you know, it is), but having Mr. Dinklage there made it feel FR-FR-FRESH! (Even if Peter Dinklage did just say the same jokes as Drunk Uncle.) (WHO CARES, IT WAS GREAT.)

The ending of the “Decency PSA” sketch really got me. It was very good. I thought it was only going to be kind of good, but then it was very good.

And, finally, “Pizza Business”! Ahhhhhhhh! The perfect response to Melissa McCarthy’s “Hidden Valley Ranch tester” character from her first time hosting. Love it. I don’t know what else to say. It was super good. She’s great. A++++++.

Oh, and then also Phoenix performed. Those guys still definitely sound exactly like Phoenix!
