Newt Gingrich Stays Up Late Watching Downton Abbey
What an exhausting day! Did anyone else have an exhausting day? Don’t go into detail, because yesterday was the day we were all given space in which we could talk about our exhausting days in detail, but just nod your heads. Nodding? Like, honestly, let’s not even get started on this (should this whole thing just be a list of stuff we can’t talk about?), because that is not a thing that deserves to even be started on, but just the IDEA of that is bringing me down. Ugh. But for some of us, the day is over. Now it’s time to go home and remember that there are wonderful things in this world to go along with the bad, like friends and family and the book about Scientology you’re reading and sleepy Newt Gingrich, exhausted from a night of marathoning Downton Abbey. From The Huffington Post:
“I have to tell you, I’m slightly not awake yet because once again last night we watched an additional episode of ‘Downton Abbey,'” Gingrich says. “One night last week we were up until two in the morning because it was one of those, ‘We have to see the next one.'”
“We’re trying to finish it this week,” he adds. (Gingrich’s obsession with the show was evident even a year ago when he released a photo of his campaign advisers that looked similar to the show’s promotional materials).
Downton, he says, is “a great study in plot.”
Just kidding about Newt Gingrich anything being wonderful, no doy, but one thing that IS wonderful is that, as humans, we are all connected by our love of turning off our brains, watching Downton Abbey for hours, and pretending that the pretty soap opera is actually something smart that we’re doing for ourselves. “It’s almost like I’m reading a book right now,” we think in unison. As least we have that, binding us together forever. Amen.
