Everyone Listen To Bradley Cooper, Plz
Months after Joaquin Phoenix called the Oscars “the worst-tasting carrot [he’s] ever tasted in [his] whole life,” (which is so funny) (very good quote) Brady cooper, in an interview with British GQ, gives a reason for the totally reasonable idea of not caring about winning an Oscar that is wonderful and very level-headed and inspired by watching his father die, which is maybe a difficult choice for something for us to talk about on a Monday afternoon, but here we are, sentence over, let’s get to the thing:
My father gave me two gifts – having me and dying with me. I used to be the kid that got the shakes if I had to talk in public; now, I just don’t get nervous about stuff. I can’t control everything. I watched my father die and I realised that is the way we are all going to die. For me, it was a switch from knowing something intellectually to knowing it by tangibly experiencing it. It rewired my neurological system. It almost did the opposite of motivating me. It was about keeping the main thing the main thing.’
As a result, missing out on an Oscar this month left Cooper completely unmoved.
‘I don’t want to win an Oscar. It would change nothing. Nothing. The things in my life that aren’t fulfilled would not be fulfilled. Career-wise, right now, it’s better that I don’t win one. I don’t want to win. I don’t.’
The fact that it is kind of hard to relate to a famous actor talking about not caring about winning the most famous Famous Actor award is not something that we should focus on here, I don’t think. Instead we should focus on: BRADLEY COOPER IS CORRECT! We are all going to die. Who cares if we don’t win “Oscars,” right? (“Oscars” meaning “Webbys,” I think, for us? The rest of us are just going for Webbys?) Let’s relax and remember that we can’t control everything, like Bradley Cooper said, and try to have a fine life for a while. For real. Listen to this guy. The end! (Via Huffington Post.)
