Chilly Gonzales – “Sweet Burden”
Each song on Chilly Gonzales’ new album Chambers is dedicated to a different person, and the second song he’s shared, “Sweet Burden,” is an ode to French composer Gabriel Faure. Gonzales calls it the album’s first “bona fide tear jerker” and notes “we all have our burdens to bear, and maybe only music can sweeten them.” While I’m listening to this, I find myself wondering how I know the melody is a sad one. I bet Gonzales could explain why, but all I notice is that the viola and cello solos seem to chase each other and never fully understand one another. Listen below.
Chambers is out 3/24. Pre-order it here.
