Paridolia – “Violent I” (Stereogum Premiere)
“Violent I” is one of the many highlights from Paridolia’s new Little Beauty release, a collection of unassuming songs from the upstate New York duo that feels like it rarely travels above a whisper. Even when it does, like on “Violent I,” everything lands with a soft thud, enveloped by a sense of warmth and care. “We told ourselves the weather would clear, but I washed the rain down with warm beer,” Eli Segal recounts in painstaking detail. “So I’m counting the days and blowing lines, hoping what’s ahead is better than what I left behind.” The despair and fear and hurt is peeking out of every corner of “Violent I,” but somewhere underneath all of that is a comfort and tranquility.
