I can’t be the only person who read Kelefa Sanneh’s recent New Yorker piece on New York hardcore and thought, “Goddam, I need to listen to more hardcore.” The big problem there: Turnstile, the one current band mentioned in the New Yorker piece, sound a little too close to 311 for comfort. So, as an alternative, allow me to present Violent Reaction, a Liverpool straight-edge band who take inspiration from old-school youth crew hardcore and from old-school British street-punk. The band’s debut album Marching On is out later this month, and you can hear the feral asskicker of a title track below.
