Sleigh Bells’ Alexis Krauss Launches Kickstarter For Safe Beauty Product Collection
Last summer, Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells teamed up with friend and Harvard Business School student Jessica Assaf to launch a website called Beauty Lies Truth that examines what really goes into beauty products. You might remember when Grimes shared some of her natural beauty secrets on the site a few months ago. Now, Krauss and Assaf are taking things to the next level, and crowdfunding for a special project called Truth Beauty Bags.
The goal of the bags is to collect an assortment of five of the best beauty products that are safe, effective, and affordable. Here’s exactly how the duo describe the bags:
Curated makeup bags that contain 5 of the safest, most effective full-size beauty products from 5 different companies that meet our strict beauty standards. Each bag costs approximately 50% less than if the products were purchased individually.
They describe the project as “an artist and an activist on a mission to change the beauty industry,” and their focus is on getting every woman educated about safe and healthy beauty products. Part of the reason they’re crowdfunding, they say, is so they can offer the bags at 50% of their retail asking price, making them more affordable for everyone.
For right now, they are launching two beauty bags: the Skincare Essentials for men and women: $50 (at a $102 retail value) and the Makeup Essentials for women: $55 (at a $112 retail value). To support the Kickstarter, you can contribute varying levels of money and receive select products from the bags and other beauty-related items.
Eventually, the site would be a full-fledged e-commerce platform to support the companies that are creating healthy and safe beauty products.
