Preview Major Lazer’s TV Series Which Will Feature Charli XCX, Ezra Koenig, & RiFF RAFF
Coinciding with the release of their third album Peace Is The Mission, EDM-dancehall purveyors Major Lazer are getting their own TV show through FXX’s new Animation Domination. The show has been public knowledge for a while, but Billboard has some big details. The animated show will be called Major Lazer, centers on a superhero named Major Lazer, and is set in futuristic, dystopian Jamaica. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost’s Mr. Eko) will voice the hero, and the show will also feature the voices of J.K. Simmons, along with guest appearances from Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Charli XCX, Riff Raff, Andy Samberg and Aziz Ansari. (We previously heard Koenig’s character’s song “Vegan Vampire.”)
According to Diplo, the show has taken nearly half a century to create, and will probably appeal to “any fans of hip-hop/electronic music or ’80s cartoons, and the culture that gave birth to [Major Lazer’s] musical landscape.” Major Lazer’s current iteration is Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire (of Black Chiney) — previously house producer Switch was involved. Watch a brief clip detailing the creative process behind the show below.
