Vicktor Taiwò – “Feathers & Wax” (Stereogum Premiere)
On “Feathers & Wax,” Nigeria-born, London-based Vicktor Taiwò plays a warm, airy version of synthpop that instantly registers as tender and true. It reminds me of Rhye’s intimate balladry subtly jolted with rhythm and transported from the dark of the bedroom to the great outdoors. On SoundCloud, the song is tagged as “cuddlecore folktronica,” which suggests that if his passions for music and photography don’t pan out, Taiwò should consider a career in writing. The music thing seems to be going pretty well, though, considering the quality inherent below. Listen up.
