Stream Braids Deep In The Iris
When Braids announced their third full-length with the release of “Miniskirt,” it became clear that Deep In The Iris was slated to make a statement. The single is all at once a takedown of deeply ingrained patriarchal societal structures, of domestic violence, and of slut-shaming. It’s an anthem and an audacious first offering. But though the songs on Deep In The Iris all sound emotionally huge, none are as intimidatingly complex as the first single. That’s OK. Braids are still making the same melodic, genre-bending, atmospheric music that could soundtrack a train ride or a temper tantrum, and they’re still one of the most exciting bands to emerge from Montreal’s disparate scene. Deep In The Iris will be released next week, but you can listen to it now over at NPR.
Deep In The Iris is out 4/28 via Arbutus.
