The Weather Station – “Tapes”
Tamara Lindeman’s voice denies understanding — at times it looms and groans, heavy with unanswered questions, and sometimes it sways freely like wheat in the wind. The Toronto singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist records under the name the Weather Station, a fitting moniker considering the elemental power her sparse yet searingly emotional folk songs have. We’ve already heard two stunning singles, “Shy Women” and “Way It Is, Way It Could Be” from her new album, Loyalty, which is due next month. Now she’s shared the swirling, spacious “Tapes” with us. It’s a sensual, restrained piece that glides on the back of Lindeman’s weightless coo. If you don’t get chills just imagining her tracking these vocals in the 19th century mansion-turned studio where Loyalty was recorded, then you probably just need to listen closer. Hear the song below.
Loyalty is out 5/12 via Paradise Of Bachelors.
