Watch Earl Sweatshirt & BADBADNOTGOOD’s Strange Kimmel Performance
Earl Sweatshirt’s new album I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside is a dark, twisty, insular piece of work, not exactly the sort of thing that lends itself to late-night TV. But Sweatshirt still popped up on last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, doing three songs from the LP with the Toronto jazz-rap combo BADBADNOTGOOD backing him up, who also did a track from last year’s III. On the show proper, he did a medley of “Huey,” “Grief,” and “AM // Radio,” looking sleepy and disconnected but still more comfortable onstage than he was when I saw him a couple of years ago. He ended that one by introducing “Gary,” a middle-aged white man in a trash bag and a bathrobe who duct-taped a wig to his own head. Sure! As an online bonus, BADBADNOTGOOD did an eight-minute version of their own track “Kaleidoscope,” all of them getting a chance to solo. Earl stayed offstage for that one. Watch those performances below.
I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside is out now on Tan Cressida/Columbia.
