The last full-length release M83’s Anthony Gonzalez unleashed on the world was the soundtrack to his brother’s feature film, You And The Night, in 2013. Since then, we’ve heard Gonzalez’s Divergent soundtrack contribution “I Need You” and “Holes In The Sky,” his Haim collaboration from sequel Insurgent. Gonzalez also scored the 2013 Tom Cruise epic Oblivion. Sonically, it makes a lot of sense that M83 would be tapped for these sci-fi-influenced efforts, but it also proves that Gonzalez has catapulted to absurd levels of recognition since he released “Midnight City,” the standout single on 2011’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. Gonzalez owes a great deal of his drive to make electronic music to one of the French pioneers of the genre, Jean-Michel Jarre, whom he met after a show in Paris and ended up collaborating on a song with. The single is called “Glory,” and it will be released on Jarre’s as-yet-untitled forthcoming album, which will also feature collaborations with Gesaffelstein, Massive Attack, and Tangerine Dream. According to Pitchfork, Gonzalez is quoted in a press release on the song, in which he talks about the first time he saw Jarre on television in 1976:

He was playing with his synths and I was blown away with the sound and the look of his synthesizers… It looked so futuristic to me, I was just hooked by the melodies and the power of his music right away.”

In a video documenting their collaboration, Gonzalez credits Jarre with inspiring a host of contemporary French electronic-based artists, including Phoenix, Daft Punk, and himself. Listen to “Glory,” and watch Gonzalez talk about his experience working with Jarre below.
