Refused – “Françafrique”

Refused – “Françafrique”

Reunited Swedish hardcore titans Refused are about to release Freedom, their fourth album and their first since 1998’s landmark The Shape Of Punk To Come. This is the sort of news that gets punk rock fans hyperventilating and feeling faint. And while first single “Elektra” found the band in diamond-hard, seesawing, anthemic form, “Françafrique,” their latest track, shows just how loose and experimental this band can get while still keeping the intensity up. “Françafrique” is built from a cheerleader chant and a garage-rock riff that wouldn’t have been out of place coming from the (International) Noise Conspiracy, Dennis Lyxzén’s post-Refused band. Toward the end, it gets downright triumphantly funky. This song is a monster, and you can listen below.
