Todd Rundgren, Emil Nikolaisen, & Hans-Peter Lindstrøm – “Put Your Arms Around Me (Stereolab/The High Llamas Remix)” (Stereogum Premiere)
I’m about to throw a lot of names at you, but bear with me, they’re all important and very, very cool in combination. Runddans is the project of Todd Rundgren (American classic rock legend), Emil Nikolaisen (frontman of Norweigan alt-rock band Serena-Maneesh), and Hans-Peter Lindstrøm (Norweigan producer and Todd Terje collaborator). Their debut release Runddans is overwhelmingly thick — the music equivalent of a sci-fi novel. Aptly, they call it “space disco.”
While remixes usually add depth and layers to a song, Stereolab and the High Llamas’ collaborative remix of Runddans’ “Put Your Arms Around Me” actually strips down the song to a more manageable listen, albeit one that last several minutes longer than the original. It’s less galactic breakdowns and more synthy disco melody. Listen.
Runddans is out now on Smalltown Supersound.
