Lower Dens – “Maneater” (Hall & Oates Cover)
Jana Hunter’s great Baltimore dream-rock crew Lower Dens have a fair amount of synthy glint in their sound. But they’re a serious band, and it’s a bit of a surprise to hear them taking on a piece of ’80s pop cheese as fundamentally silly as Hall & Oates’ 1982 smash “Maneater.” But in a recent live-in-studio session for Sirius XMU, Lower Dens deconstructed the song and built it back up from nothing, turning it into a spell-casting atmospheric lurch. And as it turns out, “Maneater” is a pretty awesome song when it’s done like this. Check it out below.
Lower Dens’ new album Escape From Evil is out now on Ribbon Music, and it rules.
