Watch A$AP Rocky Do “L$D” & “Jukebox Joints” With The Roots On The Tonight Show
A few weeks ago, A$AP Rocky released At.Long.Last.A$AP, one of 2015’s great nighttime-driving albums. And last night, he made his first late-night TV appearance to promote it. He made it count. It doesn’t always work when the Roots play backup for rappers on The Tonight Show, since their full-band sound doesn’t always work for electronic, bass-heavy beats. But for the floating, psychedelic sound of At.Long.Last.A$AP, they were perfect. And Rocky understands how to put theatricality into a TV performance. He started off last night’s performance singing the vaguely Mercury Rev-esque single “L$D” while lying on a bed onstage, while dry ice billowed all around him. And then the band lurched into “Jukebox Joints,” the soul-sampling Kanye West collab, and Rocky came alive. This was some strong stagecraft, and everyone involved sounded great. Check out the performance below.
At.Long.Last.A$AP is out now on A$AP Worldwide/RCA.
