Amelia Meath is a powerhouse of a woman. Most recently she’s been lauded as half of the electronic-pop duo Sylvan Esso, but Meath is also one of the founding members of the incredible all-female folk trio Mountain Man. This past Wednesday, 6/24, she joined Phil Cook (Megafaun, DeYarmond Edison, Gayngs, Sharon Van Etten) as a guest vocalist for a performance in his Southland Revue Showcase in Durham, North Carolina.

Cook performed backed by the Guitarheels (A+ name), and though they did a couple of covers, it was their rendition of Alabama-born, Texas-raised cult songwriting legend Willis Alan Ramsey’s “Northeast Texas Women” that blew everything else out of the water.

Meath is showing her country roots here, which have been hidden a little under her Sylvan Esso partner Nick Sanborn’s (also of Megafaun) silvery synths. She wails with the ferocity of Janis Joplin, commanding the crowd and the band alike with casual power. Hearing this song sung by a woman adds an extra element, too. Imagine seeing this kind of talent on display at a local concert on a random Wednesday evening. North Carolina seems so chill. Watch below.
