Scott Weiland Is Really Pissing Off The Few Fans He Has Left
Scott Weiland has a reputation for acting like an asshole around his fans, which is unfortunate seeing that he funded his band the Wildabouts’ new record, Blaster, through a PledgeMusic crowd-sourcing campaign. As it turns out, Weiland and the Wildabouts aren’t living up to the campaign’s promises, meaning that anyone who paid excessive amounts of money in order to receive special perks at the time of the album’s release back in March never actually got them. The Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots fan forum Below Empty has a thread dedicated to the PledgeMusic campaign that’s gathered an impressive number of disgruntled comments from fans who didn’t receive autographed lyric sheets that they paid $150 for or most notably, the signed megaphone that fans pledged a whopping $500 for. Naturally, there are a lot of fans asking PledgeMusic for refunds. Alternative Nation compiled some of the complaints in May, and one of the commenters stated that Weiland is not “above the law” and it would be perfectly acceptable to take legal action against the musician if fans don’t receive their paraphernalia in a timely manner. Weiland later responded to complaints on the Wildabouts’ Facebook page a few days later:
Just a quick word to those PledgeMusic supporters that have not yet received their items. Some of this was out of my hands, some of it was just a matter of the chaos of the last weeks…but we are almost there. Your items ARE coming. Thank you again for supporting me, The Wildabouts, and BLASTER. (And yes, I do write the lyric sheets. Each and every one.)
Your support means everything to me. Thank you again.
– Scott
Two months later, fans still haven’t received their swag. Donors took to the PledgeMusic discussion page to call out Weiland and his team for not following through on their promises. Just yesterday, a fan posted the following:
Any updates on the megaphones? I was told to contact you guys on Monday if I did not receive a shipping notification, which I did contact you as no notification was received, and I have not received a response two days later.
To echo the sentiments of everyone else below, can we get some update as to what the hold up is? There were only 25 of these which had to be signed versus the hundreds of CD’s and books that have been signed and shipped long ago. I think we are all reasonable people here, but an update aside from “they are working on it” is in order as these items were expensive and over 2 months overdue at this point.
I also realize this is not PledgeMusic’s fault entirely, but both camps need to be better on communicating with the fans who spent a ton of money on these items. Judging from the comments below, a lot of bridges are being burned and most people will think twice before purchasing from PledgeMusic or Scott Weiland in the future based on the fiasco this is turning into.
If there are some extenuating circumstances preventing these from being fulfilled, that’s fine, just keep us in the loop!
A less patient fan replied to the question:
This shit is crazy…not even responses from pledge music anymore. It’s Iike scott took the money and ran.
Indeed, this shit is crazy. Check out the disastrous PledgeMusic comments section here, and read more about the fiasco here.
